Hiver Careers
Every Hiver does something, everyone has their place. Before your gang starts out, its members will have current careers or have just left a career. This will give them a certain amount of experience and skills which are used to determine their basic statistics and what skills/resources they have access to. Remember, all gangs are family, it is very likely they all have or had similar professions. This is itself determined by class. Some careers are better than others, and the GM may require PCs to be generated randomly.
Pit Fighter
Pit fighters earn their living in the clubs and pits of the Spire. They have close-combat skills and experience have spent their early years fighting for their lives. As fighters they may be rather flash and impressive as they are also entertainers. They may already have scars or permanent injuries which may increase or decrease stats. - Any class
Rat Catcher
Rat-catchers live on the levels of the Spire where the rats are. The work in big well armed groups to take on the packs. Typically this means going into tunnels and vents to find them. Rat-catchers live a violent life, rats can typically overwhelm these huntsmen who are as often prey than predator. These rat-catching families work for the farms and receive payment when they bring in the bodies. Some are "rogue" and work for themselves, eating what they catch and selling on or wearing the skins. - Lower class.
Hired Gun
Hired Guns are the remnants of failed gangs. When families get split up or many members get killed in territorial disputes or work related accidents, the survivors will hang around clubs waiting to have their loyalty bought from better gangs. They become adoptees of the new family, a permanent part of the group. even though many are seasoned fighters, they still have to undergo initiation. Many hired guns go it alone or in small groups. Even they do well and get a good reputation they start going after bounties and working with authority an rich gangs as bounty hunters. - Any class
Factory Worker
Many Hivers are factory workers. Typical factory workers will be in poor mental and physical heath, though some may have improved stamina due to the continual exercise. A few may have inexpensive bionics or implants, but theseare usually reserved for the most productive workers. Some of them maybe owned by the factory and as such, if they want to take up racketeering as a permanent life-style, they will have to escape and avoid the factories hirelings. - Lower class
Zealous Layperson
These people work at little cost for the Church, cleaning statues and floors, filling up the re-cyc, putting incense and candels in their place, keeping the Church clean and orderly. They will also defend it with their lives if need be. They will have a better knowledge of Ministorum practice and theology and are known as pious individuals. If they become rich they may gain access to clergyhood. - Any class
Fungus Farmer
Fungus Farmers tend the fungus crop (if there is one). They lead lives similar to factory workers with similar constraints and problems. Some may have cheap implants to help with the job (bionic claws instead of hands and the like), in which case they are almost certainly owned. Again, escape is a criminal offence and punishable by death. - Lower class
Blacksmith
These families work in the smithies making basic weapons for Hivers and tools for industry. Again they are in similar positions to factory workers.
Tanner
These gangs work on the rat diaries with rat skin making leather goods. again these groups of people have factory worker like contraints and life-styles.
Rat Farmer
Rat farmers tend to the rats. They are typically younger members of rat-catcher clans, or injured members. The job isn't without risk though, occasionally a milked or mothering rat might escape and bit chunks out of the workers before it is killed. They lead lives similar to the Tanners.
Miner
Miners belong in the lower parts of a Spire and lead dangerous lives subject to Hivequakes and radiation. Miners are typically strong but unhealthy. The best get bought and are given implants. - Lower class
Administratum Clerk
These lesser clergymen spend all day chained to their desks filling out the necessary forms and sorting out the required files to keep live in the Spire organised and moving. Re-cyc & water rations have to be organised so their in enough for the parish, synth-vitamins ordered, deaths (bodies going into the re-cyc) counted, diseases & vioence monitered, PentHouses sold and mainted, wastage recorded, tax & tithes levied, HeatSink output monitered, Shell integrity monitered etc etc. Clerks have jobs just as repetative as the factory worker, but in more comfortable and less dangerous surroundings. Their is also a higher chance of promotion if the clerk-gang gain territory, good weapons and such. Strong gangs go quickly to high, even managerial, positions. - middle class and up
Whore/Dancer/Barstaff
These terms are typically synonymous in the clubs. Whores are of any gender and age and are typically vicious in their fighting. Successful whore gangs may turn to pimping or even club ownership if they manage to beat theclub-owning family. Typically though, they will lead miserable, brutalised lives where the average Hiver worker takes out his/her frustrations and hate upon their used and abused bodies. Whores either die young of disease and mistreatment or grow tough and hard, sometimes killing clients and thei families and climbing to the top. High class whores are in a slighly better position with better pay and connections. they may even get married into strong families. - any class, but typically lower
Bawd/Pimp/Slaver
Slaver gangs look after the whores or kidnap and sell weaker gangs into the trade. They may pick on weakened families or buy them legitimately from the poor. They may also procure fertile mates for the rich for a high price. Pimp gangs know all the best places for cheap and bloody entertainment or good drugs and will be paid for such information by gangs looking for a good time at someone elses expense. Slaver gangs also work for factories to bring in escaped workers.
Silk Spinner
These gangs spin spider silk and are usually younger and injured members of spider Catcher gangs. - lower class
Flagellant
These gangs are religious zealouts and are detailed under Schismatic Sects.
Hiver Advanced Careers
Spider Catcher
If rat-catcher clans are good enough they will start hunting the more dangerous spiders. Usually this takes them into tunnels and vents. Some times whole families are caught in webs of fall down a chimny. more often, spider carasses are brought in and the carapce is used to make armour, the silk for clothing and the meat and eggs for delicacies. Spider catchers can get very rich quick and can die even faster. - lower class going on to middle class
Bounty Hunter
Hired guns with a reputation and good weapons, Bounty Hunters work alone for the best pay or in small teams if they want to split the work. Typically they'll go after expensive slaves that have escaped and criminals. Deviants and wytches are left to the Venators. - middle class
Venator
Venators are high class bounty hunters sanctioned by the Church. They received special training and benefits.
Administratum Manager
These families are either rich offspring of UpperHive managers who have been in these positions for years, or climbing middle-class gangs. The work is easier and safer as their positions increase, and they earning more and more and living higher and higher. Executives allow dogs bodies, secritaries and underlings to do their work and lounge around most of the day. - Upper class
Club Owner
Rich and successful gangs don't racketeer territories, they ownthem. they may pay racketeering gangs to avoid trouble (if they are wealthy) or have to fight on a regular basis. Owner gangs are typically in an envied postion which they can loose if they are not careful. The strongest take what they want in the end. - Middle & Upper class
Adeptus Arbite
Again these are rich families who have been in the trade for generations, or strong gangs given these positions by church authorities. some gangs abuse their power and privilages, taking bribes and killing other families they have scores to settle with. THe Churches run a blind eye to this, so long as the Arbites do what they are told when they are needed.
Clergyman
Again these career families are usualy hereditory, but it is not unknown for climbers to take these positions. But good heath, connections and education are prerequisites and high ranking clergymen will crush anyone threating them. The higher ranks are always hereditory or fought over by only the richest clans. - middle to upper class
Valued Factory Worker
Factory workers who are owned by the factory owner and has received implants and bionics. - lower class
Valued Miner
Factory workers who are owned by the factory owner and has received implants and bionics. - lower class

Highly successful Pit Fighters who work in the biggest clubs with the biggests pits and arenas. They have a reputation, alot of flare and wealth. - middle class
Spryer
The richest kids of the noble families who have been in a gang and proved themselves but are now bored don the families hereditory Spryer suit. Typically these bored nobles are ex-brat gang leaders with no career (they don't need to work) who are jaded and addicted to adrenaline and fighting. They are well protected with excellent armour and weapons and travel alone to the lower levels to hunt the tough UnderHive gangs. Typically Spryers are highly competative and bet each other as to who can kill the most families, or go down the lowest and come back alive. Big money and lives are lost in these crazed, decadent games.
